A Camino
& a school
SHARE AND LEARN
Why to do the Camino as an educational activity?
At Proguías we know that the Camino de Santiago is one of the most enriching experiences a person can enjoy. For this reason, we have designed a series of programmes and activities aimed at secondary and high school groups.
For the students, this type of activity offers conviviality and companionship, self-improvement and confidence, an example of non-sedentary life and the opportunity to learn by discovery, on the ground, on the most diverse and complete European cultural itinerary.
For schools, it means being able to offer a destination of high cultural value and an activity that contributes to improving the identification of students and their families with the school and its educational project.
We take care of all the accommodation bookings and complementary services: luggage transfer, travel insurance, credentials, lunches and dinners, support vehicle and Camino guides that will make the experience much more than just burning stages on the way to Compostela.
- Culture of effort and personal sacrifice
- Companionship and self-improvement
- Coexistence and social interaction
- Improved self-esteem and confidence
The routes
Arrival and accommodation in Sarria
Arrival in Sarria will be on your own, unless the initial transfer is hired. Depending on the time of arrival, there will be time for visits to different points of interest in the town, such as the Monastery of Magdalena, the Tower of Sarria or the chapel of San Lázaro.
Sarria - Portomarín. 22.0 km
The collective adventure begins with the first stage towards Portomarín. We will cross the river Miño, the largest in Galicia, and we will see the churches of Santiago de Barbadelo - covered with scallop shells, symbol of the pilgrims -, the Sanctuary of Nosa Señora dos Remedios and the church of San Nicolao de Portomarín, moved stone by stone to save it from the dam that was built in the 60s.
Portomarín - Palas de Rei 24.7 km
This stage is marked by the presence of the Ligonde mountain range, which divides the section in two: first, a continuous ascent to the town of Ligonde, and then a descent to Palas de Rei. The cultural star of the stage will undoubtedly be the gastronomy.
Palas de Rei - Arzúa. 28,8 km
This is the longest stage of the route. We will pass through some mythical places, such as Furelos or Ribadiso. But, above all, Melide - famous for its traditional octopus preparations and for some outstanding buildings that are worth visiting, such as the church of Sancti Spiritus. At the end of the day, in Arzúa, we can visit some of its monuments and enjoy its gastronomy.
Arzúa - O Pedrouzo. 19.0 km
Penultimate stage before reaching Santiago. We will cross permanently green fields, walking along tracks and the famous Galician "corredoiras". At the foot of the hermitage of Santa Irene we can join the pilgrims who congregate there, stopping to discover the miracles of its fountain.
O Pedrouzo - Santiago. 19,1 km
This stage takes us to the magnificent Obradoiro Square, from where we will be able to contemplate the impressive cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The first victory will be felt when we reach Monte do Gozo, from where we will be able to contemplate its towers for the first time. And, if we wish, a guided tour of the city to get to know its main points of interest.

Arrival and accommodation in Tui
We will arrive in Tui on our own or by hired transport from Santiago. Depending on the time, there will be time to visit different points of interest in the town, such as the Cathedral and the old town, or to enjoy the flowing Miño river.
Tui - O Porriño. 16.1 km
The collective adventure begins with the first stage towards O Porriño, leaving behind the Miño and the Portuguese border. We will take the alternative route that runs parallel to the Louro river, after passing the town of Ribadelouro. In this way, we will avoid the tedious asphalt of the large industrial estate of As Gándaras and we will discover the traces of the old Roman road XIX.
O Porriño - Redondela 15.6 km
This stage will allow us to enjoy the panoramic view of the Vigo estuary and learn about part of its history. It is largely unknown, despite the fact that important episodes took place there during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1702 and that it was the first area to free itself from French rule a century later. And we will discover the history of the wrecks of Rande and the inlet of St. Simon.
Redondela - Pontevedra. 19,1 km
This stage of the Portuguese Way of St. James will allow us to enjoy a wide and complete visit to Pontevedra and its cobbled streets recovered for strolling and leisurely enjoyment. Pontevedra is the second monumental city of Galicia, after Santiago de Compostela. Its marvellous squares and spectacular monuments will not disappoint you. Nor will its surprising stories.
Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis. 21,1 km
This stage of the Portuguese Way of St. James is for nature lovers. We will be accompanied by wonderful landscapes dotted with small villages with the typical charms of the Rías Baixas region. We can stop for lunch at the Rio Barosa Nature Park before arriving in Caldas de Reis to enjoy its thermal waters.
Caldas de Reis - Padrón. 18,5 km
The penultimate stage of this Camino will take us from Caldas de Reis to the place where the disciples of Santiago disembarked with his remains, according to tradition. In Padrón, one of the magical places of the Camino awaits you. But before that, the route runs through the magnificent Galician countryside, through its scattered humanised geography and its carballeiras (oak groves), its cultivated fields, its small parish churches and the characteristic cruceiros (stone crosses).
Padrón - Santiago de Compostela. 22.0 km
A day to reach the heart of Compostela and the cathedral of the apostle. Only 22 km separate us from our goal. They will be full of emotion and intensity, allowing us to relive the steps that Theodore and Athanasius, the disciples of the apostle St. James who brought his remains to the old forest of Libredon, must have taken from Padrón.
Breakfast and end of services.
After breakfast, our services end for the day. But the day can be rounded off with guided tours of the city before heading home.
