▌Day 1. Arrival in Santiago de Compostela

After arriving in Santiago on your own, perhaps coming from another route, a new journey opens up before you. The one that will take you along the Way of Fisterra and Muxía to the end of the ancient world.

Our recommendation is that you take advantage of the time to visit the city. To get to know its main landmarks, which include the Cathedral and its immediate surroundings, but do not necessarily stop there.

In addition, if you stamp your credential in Santiago and you do it along your way, when you get to Fisterra you can get the Fisterrana, a document certifying that you have completed the journey to the End of the World. And if you pass through Muxía, you can also get the Muxiana, which accredits pilgrims to the sanctuary of A Barca.

▌Day 2. Santiago - Negreira

You will leave Santiago from Obradoiro square, heading towards one of the most beautiful spots on this route: Ponte Maceira. To get there, you will have to climb the Alto do Mar de Ovellas from Augapesada. It is a steep climb under an oak grove, but the result is well worth it. When you reach Ponte Maceira, you will be greeted by the spectacular old bridge over the river Tambre. After leaving the area, you will reach Negreira, a town with all services and a traditional place to spend the night.

▌Day 3. Negreira - Santa Mariña

On the third day you will do one of the most beautiful stages of this route, far from the urban asphalt and under leafy forests of native species: oak, beech, chestnut, etc. It is an uphill stage, especially in the first stretch. On leaving Negreira you will pass under the interesting Pazo de Cotón, built in the 15th century on the Camino Real, which preserves its defensive aspect.

The day will end in one of those tiny villages that dot the Galician geography: Santa Mariña, a perfect place to rest and regain strength after this second stage of the Fisterra Way.

▌Day 4. Santa Mariña - Dumbría stage.

Leaving the village of Santa Mariña behind, the first hurdle is to climb Monte Aro, which offers beautiful views over the banks of the A Fervenza reservoir. From there you will start to go down the Xallas valley until you cross Ponte Olveira and arrive at the village of Olveiroa - which preserves some renovated century-old hórreos (raised granaries).

From there, the route continues gently uphill to Hospital and then begins a long descent towards Dumbría, capital of the municipality of the same name.

▌Day 5. Dumbría - Muxía

Fourth stage of this Camino from Fisterra and Muxía. One of the most interesting from the point of view of the material heritage and that, in addition, has the great attraction of culminating in the first pilgrim destination: Muxía, alternative end of the Camino de Santiago. The route passes through villages such as Trasulfe and San Martiño de Ozón, with its huge granary (one of the largest in Galicia).

The last few kilometres before Muxía you will face a short but tough climb, passing by the old monastery of San Xiao de Moraime, dating from the 12th century, which holds in its interior very interesting and rare Renaissance paintings about sins and death.

From there, you will finally descend to Muxía. Just one kilometre separates you from the Sanctuary of Nosa Señora da Barca. There, according to tradition, the apostle St. James saw the Virgin appear in a boat in gratitude for his work of evangelisation. From Punta da Barca you can see the Camariñas estuary, with the Cabo Vilán lighthouse in the background, and enjoy its rocky coastline full of history. Take your time. Afterwards you can return to the centre of Muxía, get the Muxiana and rest.

▌Day 6. Stage Muxía - Fisterra

In this last stage of the Way of Fisterra and Muxía, you will leave the Muxía peninsula by the beach of Lourido, towards Lires, where one of the smallest estuaries of Galicia is formed.

From Lires you will head towards Duio, either by the conventional route or by the O Rostro variant, which passes by the beach of the same name. Both converge in San Martiño de Duio - a town linked to the legendary Roman city of Dugium. Legend has it that it was swallowed up by the waters due to the sins committed by its inhabitants in persecuting the disciples of Santiago who were carrying his body.

Further on, you will reach Langosteira, which has one of the most incredible beaches in Galicia and, finally, Fisterra. You'll only have three kilometres left to climb along the road that leads to the famous lighthouse. A piece of advice: don't miss the sunset from the cliffs of the mountain. In ancient times, people from different peoples from all over the continent who worshipped the sun made pilgrimages to this moment.

NOTE: If you have time, our recommendation is to divide this long stage into two, spending the night in Lires. This would leave two days of 15.2 km and 12.3 km respectively. These shorter stages reduce the walking time and allow you to enjoy the charms of the place with more tranquility, such as the beach of Lires or the beaches and the seafaring heritage of Fisterra.

▌Day 7. We welcome you to Fisterra

Fisterra has been considered, since time immemorial, as the westernmost point of Europe. Beyond its indented coastline, the great Ocean, or, as the ancient Romans called it, the Marem Tenebrosumthe sea of darkness.

We recommend spending time at the fish market, strolling around the port and sampling its exceptional seafood cuisine, and visiting the Museum of the Sea, the church of Virxe das Areas and, of course, the area around the spectacular lighthouse.
