Full Day

Duration

Available dates

To the north and south of Cape Fisterra stretches the incredible geographical and cultural landscape of the Costa da Morte. We will visit Muros, a typical fishing village of the estuary to which it gives its name, and Ézaro, where the waterfall of the river Xallas and the Pindo mountain are located.

At midday we will visit Cape Fisterra, where we will find the Km 0 of the Way and a place of pilgrimage since time immemorial. After lunch in the westernmost town in Europe, we will continue along the coast towards another of the alternative ends of the Way of St. James: the seaside sanctuary of Muxía, a place of legends and breathtaking scenery.

At the end of the day, we will return to Santiago stopping at Ponte Maceira, one of the most beautiful villages in the Iberian Peninsula.

Itinerary

Muros: village by the sea

The first stop of the day will be in Muros, a historic fishing village in the estuary of Muros and Noia. Its narrow streets, its stone architecture and the gothic church of San Pedro will help us to gradually enter into the tone of the day, combining landscape and culture. We will have time to take a short stroll along the port coastline or to explore its narrow and picturesque streets.

Ézaro, waterfall over the sea

Few rivers in the world flow into the sea forming a natural waterfall. In Europe, the only one that does is the river Xallas, in the town of Ézaro. It does so, moreover, at the foot of the O Pindo mountain range, a place where Celtic tradition places the abode of the ancient gods transformed today, in popular tradition, into stone guardians among the rocks of the mountain.

Fisterra, the End of the World of the ancients

After the visit to Ézaro, we will continue along the coast towards Fisterra. There, the pilgrims who come to Compostela find the immensity of the ocean challenged by the most important lighthouse of the Costa da Morte and one of the most important in Europe.

Today the lighthouse cannot be visited, as it is closed to the public, but this will leave us time to walk around it and find the copper boot of the pilgrim, a symbol of a tradition that goes back into the mists of time, and the milestone of the kilometre zero of the Camino.

In Fisterra we will have time to have lunch in one of the restaurants in the port. A perfect occasion to let yourself be pampered and enjoy the Galician seafood gastronomy, with special attention to the seafood.

Muxía and the Nosa Señora da Barca Sanctuary

In the afternoon, we will head further north, in the direction of another of the alternative ends of the Camino de Santiago: Muxía. At its end, known as Punta da Barca, we will visit one of the most traditional seafaring sanctuaries in Galicia, "Nosa Señora da Barca", situated in a spectacular location by the sea.

Tradition has it that this is where the Virgin Mary appeared to the apostle Santiago. We can also discover the traditions associated with its rocky coastline and some special formations.

Ponte Maceira: the village of Tambre

On our way back to Santiago, we will make a last stop in the tiny village of Ponte Maceira, which stretches on both sides of the river Tambre and is connected by a majestic Romanesque bridge that pilgrims on their way to Fisterra cross every day. A picturesque place perfect for a few last photographs before arriving in Santiago.

Return to Santiago

Finally, we will return to Santiago de Compostela, where we will finish our service.
